Request for proposal
Lawyers for Therapists is a law firm dedicated to supporting mental health professionals, healers, psychiatrists, prescribing nurse practitioners, and private practice owners with legal services that are clear, human-centered, and grounded in values of accessibility and inclusion. We’re building legal tools and solutions that are not only compliant, but also clear, kind, and accessible for the people they serve.
As part of this effort, we seek expert guidance in creating forms, contracts, and written materials accessible to and supportive of neurodivergent people, including but not limited to people with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and sensory processing differences.
This request for proposal (RFP) represents a first, focused step in helping us understand how to write, format, and present legal forms in ways that reduce cognitive load and affirm diverse communication needs.
We recognize that the budget for this initial engagement is modest. We’re a small firm doing values-driven work and are committed to compensating fairly for this scope. We hope this can serve as a starting point for meaningful and mutually respectful collaboration, and we’re open to evolving this work as our capacity grows.
Thank you for considering joining us.
Purpose:
We are looking to engage a consultant with deep expertise in neurodivergent accessibility and communication, particularly in how language, structure, tone, design, and delivery of written materials impact comprehension, comfort, and usability for neurodivergent individuals.
This consultant will not be responsible for legal review or drafting. Instead, they will guide our team in building internal standards and practices for:
Writing contracts and forms with a neurodivergent-friendly tone, language, and syntax
Formatting documents to reduce cognitive overload
Using inclusive colors, layouts, and design principles
Identifying potential accessibility barriers in language and structure
Providing optional supports such as alternative formats, summaries, or visuals
Scope of Work:
We expect the consultant to:
Conduct a review of 3–5 sample documents (forms, contracts, or policies) we provide and offer constructive feedback from a neurodivergent accessibility perspective
1–2 live Zoom sessions (60–90 mins each) with our team to walk through key principles, examples, and suggestions. Advise us on best practices, guidelines, and potential improvements to our document builder tool and content
Provide a summary document or checklist for internal use (i.e., “Neurodivergent-Accessible Document Guidelines”)
Ideal Qualifications
The ideal consultant will have:
Lived and/or professional experience with neurodivergence
Expertise in accessible communication, plain language, inclusive design, and/or cognitive accessibility

Comfort working with professionals in the law or healthcare fields and translating complex information for real-world use
